The Baltimore Ravens’ biggest offseason move was getting franchise quarterback Lamar Jackson locked up on a five-year, $260 million contract extension.
Said move came shortly after the former NFL MVP requested a trade from the organization, calming nerves in Maryland in the process.
With Jackson set to be QB1 for the foreseeable future, general manager Eric DeCosta and the Ravens are in the market for a backup.
According to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic, the Ravens would like to upgrade over their current crop of backups. Currently, in-house candidates Tyler Huntley and Anthony Brown are vying with veteran journeyman Josh Johnson for the QB2 job.
Given Lamar Jackson’s extensive injury history, it makes sense to look at the veteran free agent market ahead of the start of training camp later this month.

Baltimore Ravens QB options in NFL free agency
Baltimore showed interest Baker Mayfield before he landed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The team also had interest in Jacoby Brissett until he signed with the Washington Commanders. Even then, there is still some intriguing options available to the Ravens.
- Carson Wentz: A former Pro Bowl during his time with the Philadelphia Eagles, Wentz has acknowledged that he’ll likely have to sign as a backup. He struggled big time in Washington a season ago. Baltimore could look to add a veteran in Wentz who has started 92 games throughout his career.
- Matt Ryan: While this former NFL MVP has taken a job in broadcasting, Ryan isn’t willing to hang the cleats up just yet. He’ll wait for the perfect opportunity. It might come as a backup to the injured-plagued Jackson in Baltimore.
- Teddy Bridgewater: This former first-round pick might make the most sense for the Baltimore Ravens. Bridgewater has extensive starting experience dating back to stints with the Minnesota Vikings and Miami Dolphins. He also fits Baltimore’s offense to a T.
