Patrick Mahomes surpasses Dan Marino in big QB list, makes NFL history

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes entered Sunday Night Football against the New York Jets with 199 career regular season touchdown in just 83 games.

This had the two-time NFL MVP on pace to become the fastest player in NFL history with 200 passing touchdowns in the regular season.

When Mahomes hit tight end Noah Gray on a 34-yard touchdown in the first quarter, he officially set the mark.

Mahomes’ 200th career touchdown came in his 84th start. To put this into perspective, it took all-time great quarterback Dan Marino 89 games to reach the 200 plateau. Aaron Rodgers needed 99 games while Peyton Manning needed 106 games.

While Marino is still the youngest quarterback to throw 200 touchdowns, this just goes to show us how dominant Mahomes has been since Kansas City selected him in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Texas Tech.

Mahomes still has a long way to go before even coming close to Tom Brady’s NFL record of 649 touchdown passes. In fact, Brady holds that mark by a whopping 78 touchdowns over the No. 2 player on the list, Drew Brees.

By virtue of his first score on Sunday night, Mahomes did surpass Phil Simms and Alex Smith for 49th on the all-time list. Pro Football Hall of Famers Kurt Warner (208), Terry Bradshaw (212) and John Brodie (214) are the next big names up on the list.
