The Philadelphia Eagles have not been afraid to extend young stars in the recent past under respected general manager Howie Roseman.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts inked a five-year, $255 million contract extension with Philadelphia back in April of 2023. That came mere months after he put up a record-setting performance in a Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Most recently, guard Landon Dickerson (four-year, $84 million) and offensive tackle Jordan Mailata (three-year, $66 million) signed extensions earlier this offseason.

Despite Philadelphia coming off a complete meltdown late last season, Roseman is looking to continue handing out the huge pay days.

It does not appear that the Eagles are not done yet. Heading into NFL Draft season, Philadelphia could be on the verge of inking another star to a massive extension.

Smith, 25, was a top-10 pick out of Alabama in the 2021 NFL Draft. He’s set to enter the fourth year of his rookie contract and is eligible for a contract extension. That could very well be in the cards.

“The focus now shifts to one of their most important skill position players. The Eagles are making efforts behind the scenes to get something done with 25-year-old Smith. Contract talks are ongoing, sources familiar with negotiations said, and there’s general optimism that a deal will materialize in the near future.”

Since Philadelphia made Smith a first-round pick in 2021, he’s morphed into a legitimate receiving option for Hurts. The star receiver is averaging 80 receptions for 1,060 yards and six touchdowns throughout his three-year career.

All of this comes at a time that fellow wide receivers Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase, CeeDee Lamb and Brandon Aiyuk are looking for lucrative long-term contract extensions.

It also comes at a time with the wide receiver market exploding. That was magnified by the Tennessee Titans shockingly signing Calvin Ridley to a four-year, $92 million contract during NFL free agency.
