Philadelphia Eagles targeting another weapon for Jalen Hurts in 2023 NFL Draft

The Philadelphia Eagles are slated to select 10th and 30th overall in Thursday’s NFL Draft. For the defending NFC champions, this is yet another opportunity to improve their roster big time.

These two first-round picks also give front office head Howie Roseman a ton of different avenues to pursue with so many options available to them.

Could one of these options be adding more weapons for recently extended star quarterback Jalen Hurts?

According to Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network, the Eagles have been doing a lot of homework on former Ohio State wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba while making a late push to draft him.

Smith-Njigba is seen as the clear-cut No. 1 receiver in the 2023 NFL Draft. It’s a weak class at that position with the 6-foot-1 pass-catcher standing above the rest.

The former Buckeyes star will not be available with the Philadelphia Eagles’ original first-round pick (30th overall). Either they are targeting him at 10 or in a potential trade up from late in the first round.

Either way, this is a rather interesting development. Philadelphia has exhausted a ton of capital on wide receivers over the past two years. That included drafting DeVonta Smith No. 10 overall back in 2021 and yielding a first-round pick in 2022 to acquire A.J. Brown during last year’s NFL Draft.

Obviously, adding the draft’s best wide receiver to go with those two would create a dynamic trio. Philadelphia could also see this as a luxury pick given its status as the defending NFC Champions while boasting an additional first-round pick.

Philadelphia has also been among the most linked to generational running back talent Bijan Robinson from Texas. These reports have come in hot and heavy ahead of Thursday night’s NFL Draft.

Robinson makes a bit more sense than Jaxon Smith-Njigba given that the Eagles let leading rusher Miles Sanders depart for the Carolina Panthers in free agency.

We are highly intrigued to see what the Eagles plan to do with their two first-round picks this evening. Roseman has proven to be a true wild card, creating more intrigue as the annual event approaches.
