Packers receiver Davante Adams ruled out vs. Vikings

Davante Adams

The Green Bay Packers are officially eliminated from the playoff race, so the team is taking no chances with Davante Adams on the injury front.

Head coach Mike McCarthy announced Adams, who has a concussion, will not be available against the Minnesota Vikings, per Rob Demovsky of ESPN.

Adams left the Week 15 clash with the Carolina Panthers after taking a nasty helmet-to-helmet hit from linebacker Thomas Davis, who the league suspended for two games before reducing the ban to one.

Worst of all for Adams, it’s the second time a concussion has taken him off the field this season. The wideout exited an earlier matchup against the Chicago Bears on a stretcher following a brutal hit from linebacker Danny Trevathan.

Even if Adams had passed concussion protocol, the Packers would’ve been wise to hold him out as they are with Aaron Rodgers. These final two regular-season games mean nothing for the 2017 team, and Adams doesn’t need to prove himself. When healthy, he’s a starter for Green Bay.

It wouldn’t be a horrible thing if Adams doesn’t return to the field until 2018. Given the Packers’ status, the risk heavily outweighs the reward.
