Kansas City Chiefs suffer brutal injury blow ahead of Super Bowl LVIII

The Kansas City Chiefs are riding high after Sunday’s win over the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game.

They are now headed to their fourth Super Bowl in five years and will take on the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas on Feb. 11.

Unfortunately for Andy Reid’s squad, they will also be without one of the best performers on the defensive side of the ball. Veteran edge rusher Charles Omenihu suffered a torn ACL in the aforementioned win over Baltimore and will be sidelined for Super Bowl LVIII.

Signed by Kansas City from San Francisco last March, Omenihu played a huge role for a revamped Chiefs defense during the regular season. The former fifth-round pick from Texas recorded 11 QB hits, seven sacks and two forced fumbles.

He was also huge in Sunday’s win over the Ravens, recording a strip sack of Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson in the process.

Going up against a high-powered 49ers offensive attack in the Super Bowl, this loss will be felt big time. Omenihu was third on the Chiefs in sacks behind George Karlaftis III and stud defensive tackle Chris Jones.

The onus is now going to fall on Michael Danna (6.5 sacks) to do his thing in getting to 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy. It will be no easy task with an all-time great in Trent Williams blocking Purdy’s blindside.
