Could Denver Broncos pass on drafting QB in Round 1 and instead target Dak Prescott in 2025 NFL Free agency?

NFL Draft analyst and former player Corey Chavous believes the Denver Broncos may not make quarterback a priority in this month’s draft and could have their eyes set on a pair of potential Pro Bowl free-agent QBs next year.

Year two for Sean Payton as head coach of the Broncos has much more pressure than his debut for the franchise. In 2023 things were hopeful and fans were happy to have a proven head coach overseeing the team. However, after the Russell Wilson situation only got messier at the end of the year and they finished with an 8-9 record, the honeymoon is over and fans want results.

That is why this month’s draft has a huge amount of importance to it. The team has a massive hole to fill at QB and since they have the No. 12 pick in the opening round of the event, the hope is they will take one of the talented QB prospects available in this year’s class. However, many of the best young QBs this year could all be off the board by the time Denver is on the clock.

That means they could wait until day two or three to go after a QB with far lower expectations. Due to that fact, one-time Pro Bowler and NFL Draft analyst Corey Chavous had a wild idea of who the organization may target to be their next franchise QB.

Dak Prescott,” Chavous told Denver Gazette NFL reporter Chris Tomasson. “That’s a possibility.”

After speculation that a contract extension for the Dallas Cowboys star QB would happen this season, it now looks like the organization will let him play out the final season of his deal and potentially test free agency next March.

However, the co-founder of Draft Nasty Magazine also suggested another big name that could be a potential free agent target early next year. “Don’t forget Tua (Tagovailoa). He’s a timing passer like Drew Brees.”

The Miami Dolphins star is also entering the final year of his contract in the 2024 NFL season.
