Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Jackson made the surprise transition to coaching with Jackson State back in 2020. It was a smashing success with Sanders posting a 27-6 record at the small college while putting the HBCU program on the map.
It also led to Sanders being hired by the University of Colorado following the 2022 season. Perhaps, this could be seen as a stepping stone to larger things and a potential NFL career as a coach. After all, Sanders has proven he’s not in over his head.
While NFL teams would likely love to talk to Sanders about a gig down the line, he apparently has no interest in coaching professionally.
“I just have no desire to coach rich men. I’d rather have an impact on a younger man that needs direction,” Deion Sanders told GQ recently.
Sanders, 55, has been successful largely due to his style. He’s a player-friendly coach, one that seems to connect with young and impressionable men. Obviously, that might not translate too well to the NFL ranks with grown men making millions.

We do believe that Colorado is a mere stepping stone to larger things for Sanders in the college football world. He had previously been linked to Florida State, where the legendary cornerback starred from 1985-1988 before being the fifth overall pick of the Atlanta Falcons in the 1989 NFL Draft.
The Seminoles coaching gig now seems to have a full-time option in that of Mike Norvell after he led the program to a 10-3 record in 2022, its best finish since 2016.
Even then, a more relevant national program could be on Deion Sainders horizon. The SEC will likely come calling if he turns things around in Colorado after the program posted a disastrous 1-11 record this past season.
