Carolina Panthers hire highly regarded Los Angeles Rams assistant as offensive coordinator

The Carolina Panthers hired Frank Reich as their new head coach in late January and now the franchise has made another significant hire, as reports are surfacing the team plans to hire Thomas Brown as its new offensive coordinator.

As reported by NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero, the 36-year-old Brown is seen as a highly regarded young coach who spent the last four years with the Los Angeles Rams, moving up the ladder each season and most recently serving as the team’s assistant head coach.

While the Rams didn’t have their usual fireworks on display as an offense last season, a lot of the unfamiliar ineffectiveness we witnessed was mostly due to a season derailed by several injuries, including one to quarterback Matthew Stafford.

However, given the 2021 season that saw the Rams win Super Bowl LVI and the type of production generally seen on offense, this should be the kind of hire that has Carolina Panthers fans comfortably cheering on.

Considering the way the Panthers’ up-and-down 7-10 season went, having an offensive mind like Reich now in place as the head coach to pair with Brown should have Panthers fans elated for what’s to come.

Carolina has the No. 9 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, so one might expect they will lean on the offensive side of the ball considering the coaching staff the team has put in place.

It also happens to fall into their “needs” department, as the 2022 season was more or less a disaster right from the jump. A very quick trade of what was a visibly disgruntled wide receiver Robbie Anderson as well as eventually releasing Baker Mayfield, it was not exactly a season to remember when it came to offensive execution.

With new, widely respected reinforcements in place to go along with a clean slate, it’s really all fans of any NFL franchise looking to bounce back can hope for. With their hires this offseason, the Carolina Panthers are seemingly pointed in the right direction.
