Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers provides injury update ahead of Week 13

Green Bay Packers star quarterback and two-time reigning NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers exited last Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles with a rib injury and did not return to action.

At least initially, it seemed as if Rodgers might end up finding himself on the bench for some time given the Packers’ standing as a non-playoff contender and the injury itself.

However, it became apparent following Green Bay’s loss that Rodgers’ injury was not as severe as first thought.

In talking with Pat McAfee on Tuesday, Rodgers provided an update about his injury. In the process, he seemed to be confident that he’ll be able to go against the Chicago Bears in Week 13.

“I got good news with the scans yesterday, so I plan on playing this week,” Aaron Rodgers on ribs injury.

Prior to going down in Green Bay’s 40-33 loss to Philadelphia, Rodgers completed 11-of-16 passes for 140 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Dealing with another injury heading into the game, it’s been a major struggle for the future first-ballot Hall of Famer recently.

With his Packers at 4-8 on the season and on the verge of being eliminated from playoff contention, some figured it made sense to sit Rodgers for the remainder of the season and see what young quarterback Jordan Love has to offer. That’s now unlikely to be the case.

One of the best quarterbacks in modern NFL history, Rodgers dominated in the eight seasons leading up to the 2022 campaign. That span saw the former first-round pick throw 261 touchdowns compared to 41 interceptions with an incredibly low 1.0 interception rate.

Thus far this season, the soon-to-be 39-year-old quarterback has thrown just 21 touchdowns against nine interceptions. He’s also struggled big time recently.

  • Aaron Rodgers stats (past five games): 62% completion, 1,085 yards, 10 TD, 6 INT, 89.5 QB rating, 4.1 interception rate

Green Bay is pretty much playing out the string in a lost season. Despite this, Rodgers wants to remain on the field throughout. Whatever happens after that is anyone’s best guess.
