There are no more games to be played for the 2024 NFL Draft class before reaching the pros. But that doesn’t mean a prospect’s draft stock can’t still rise and fall. Texas Longhorns defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat is learning this the hard way.

The star 6-foot-4 trench warrior had a great career at Texas, putting him on track to become one of the first interior defensive linemen selected on draft weekend, likely on Day 2 between Rounds 2 and 3. However, his recent arrest after crashing his SUV, leading to DWI charges, hasn’t helped Sweat’s case.

Now, according to Sportskeeda’s Tony Pauline, Sweat is no longer expected to be selected until at least Day 3, the final part of the 2024 NFL Draft.

“How far does T’Vondre Sweat fall after his DWI arrest over the weekend? Out of Day 2, if my sources are correct. The issues with Sweat are deeper than just one DWI arrest; he’s been known as someone who likes to party too much as well as not taking his conditioning seriously.

While there was no weight posted for Sweat at the Senior Bowl, I’m told that heading into the event he was well over 380 pounds. He later tipped the scales at 366 pounds at the combine. No one questions his talent, yet the commitment to off-the-field conditioning is a major issue, and the DWI confirms fears of Sweat’s tendency to party.”

Make no mistake, Sweat is still viewed as a top defensive tackle prospect, but his recent actions do seem to have negatively impacted his draft stock, costing him thousands of dollars in his rookie contract. Sweat’s loss may be another team’s gain, where they get a player at a much lower spot than anyone initially anticipated.

While Sweat’s pre-draft evaluation process hasn’t gone smoothly, thanks in large part to his own decisions, he can make this all go away once he reaches the NFL by turning over a new leaf. Who knows? He could still become the best DT in the 2024 NFL Draft.
