Earlier this week, we learned about former Texas Longhorns defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat’s DWI arrest. The monstrous 6-foot-4, 362-pound defensive lineman is just weeks away from hearing his name called during the 2024 NFL Draft and is viewed as one of the top DT prospects in the draft class.

Yet, now Sweat finds himself fending off questions about his off-field behavior, which was reportedly already a red flag heading into the pre-draft process. During private interviews with NFL teams, Sweat allegedly ensured his habits were a thing of the past, yet his recent arrest suggests otherwise.

Now, we’re learning even more about the night of Sweat’s arrest.

ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg discovered that the Austin police department arrested Sweat after officers were initially called to the scene to deal with a car crash. The accident involved an SUV and a sedan at 4:41 a.m. local time. Sweat was driving the SUV that eventually crashed, but the driver of the sedan reportedly fled the scene on foot right after the accident occurred.

We won’t get into the potential reasons why the other driver felt the need to immediately abandon the crash site. None were provided. Yet, it’s clearly not a good look for Texas, the NFL, or other college football athletes who have a long history of car-related incidents.

Viewed as a Day 2 draft pick, Sweat now has more questions to answer regarding his past, but teams have until April 25 to uncover as many details as possible before determining whether he’d be a good addition to their locker room in 2024.
