Rookie quarterback Trey Lance and the San Francisco 49ers took out the Las Vegas Raiders in their preseason finale on Sunday.

The game itself was interesting in that Lance rotated with presumed 49ers starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo throughout the first quarter-plus of the game.

It also appears that the rookie No. 3 pick was dinged up in the game. Trey Lance was seen holding a finger on his throwing hand after apparently hitting said digit on another player’s helmet.

In talking to the media one day later, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan notes that Lance will be sidelined for seven days due to the injury.

With the 49ers’ regular season opener against the Detroit Lions set to kick off in just under two weeks, this doesn’t seem to be a huge deal. Obviously, the 49ers would like to get Lance reps in practice. But he should be ready to go once the regular season opens.

Whether this means Lance will actually take to the field against Detroit remains to be seen. At times on Sunday, the 21-year-old North Dakota State product could be seen rotating pretty much every other play with Garoppolo against the Raiders.

For his part, Shanahan would not tip is hand as it relates to San Francisco’s plans for the regular season. What we do know is that he expects Lance to be on the field in certain packages.

Trey Lance struggled to an extent with accuracy during his three preseason appearances. However, 49ers players also dropped a ridiculous nine passes. Lance finished the exhibition slate tallying four total touchdowns against one interception.
