Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts (ankle) out Week 13, Gardner Minshew to start Sunday

Philadelphia Eagles, Jalen Hurts

Philadelphia Eagles starting quarterback Jalen Hurts will miss Sunday’s game with an ankle injury, opening the door for Gardner Minshew to take the field for his first start since the 2020 NFL season.

Hurts suffered an ankle sprain in the team’s Week 12 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, costing him valuable practice time this week and making him a game-time decision entering the weekend. According to reporter Derrick Gunn, Hurts will be among the Eagles’ inactive on Sunday.

Minshew, acquired for a conditional sixth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, will step in as the Eagles’ starting quarterback for their matchup against the New York Jets.

While Philadelphia will miss Hurts’ athleticism, the matchup might be favorable for its passing attack in a great matchup. Over the last seven games, opposing quarterbacks posted a 17-4 TD-INT ratio with a 70.8% completion rate and 114.7 passer rating against New York’s defense.

With the Eagles on a bye in Week 14, Hurts should be fully healthy when the team returns on Dec. 19 to face the Washington Football Team.
