Philadelphia Eagles will be with 3 top players on defense in Week 6 vs. New York Jets

The undefeated Philadelphia Eagles will have to try and beat the New York Jets in Week 6 without three of their very best players on defense.

Heading into their game on Sunday afternoon, the Philadelphia Eagles are just one of two teams (along with the San Francisco 49ers) that remain unbeaten in the NFL standings after the first five weeks. Their offense led by Jalen Hurts is top five in yards per game and points. While the defense is among the 10 to 15 best in the league in those same categories.

They enter their game in Week 6 against the New York Jets as sizable favorites, however, it is going to be a bit more difficult than originally expected after the reveal of their official injury report on Sunday morning.

The Eagles unfortunately will not have star defensive backs Darius Slay or Justin Evans available for their 4:25 PM ET matchup later today. Both are dealing with knee injuries and are among the team’s leaders in tackles so far this season.

However, the most impactful loss today will occur on the defensive line. During a Sunday morning edition of ESPN’s “Sportscenter,” it was reported that star rookie Jalen Carter “suffered an ankle injury during Wednesday’s practice. He also will miss today’s game.”

The ninth pick overall in the 2023 NFL Draft has gotten off to a strong start to his first season in the league. He currently leads the team in sacks (3.5), is second in tackles for loss and forced fumbles (2), and has four QB hits on the season.

The major silver lining in a tough situation is that they are facing a Jets offense that is one of the worst in the league so far this season and is only averaging just over 18 points per game.
