Patrick Mahomes says his goal is to own an NFL team

Fans witnessed Tom Brady’s reign for two decades, but now the face of the NFL belongs to Patrick Mahomes, the winner of two of the past four Super Bowls. The Kansas City Chiefs QB is most known for his accomplishments on the field, which include the two rings, becoming a two-time first-team All-Pro selection, plus two MVP awards.

But Mahomes is also building quite the investment portfolio of sports franchises too.

His latest purchase includes buying into the Alpine Formula One racing team ownership group.

Mahomes isn’t the only one who has gotten involved in the Alpine Formula One ownership team. He’s also joined by teammate Travis Kelce and even pro golfer Rory McIlroy.

In addition to his stake in the Alpine Formula One team, Mahomes is also a part-owner of the Kansas City Royals (MLB), Sporting KC (MLS), and The Current (NWSL).

While Mahomes’ collection is impressive, the 28-year-old hopes this is only the beginning. His ultimate goal is to eventually get involved in NFL ownership, but Mahomes knows it will have to be after he retires due to league restrictions.

“Eventually, when I’m done playing. I think Tom [Brady] is trying to do it right now, but that’s definitely where you want to get to. I love this sport and want to give back in any way possible. When I’m done playing, obviously I’ll be a Chiefs fan, but at the same time I want to have that competitive edge I’ve always had my entire life.”

Patrick Mahomes on his goals of owning an NFL team

As the NFL’s second-highest-paid QB today, earning an average salary of $52.6 million, Mahomes should have no trouble making enough money to purchase a partial ownership stake once his football career is over.

Mahomes said since he’s not able to get involved in NFL ownership just yet, it’s caused him to seek out as many other opportunities as he can, knowing how rare they are. Perhaps someday, he’ll add NFL owner to his list of titles, but for now, he’ll have to settle for being known as the Chiefs’ starting QB.
