Despite an absurd amount of injuries to quarterbacks in the NFL this season, one-time league MVP Cam Newton says that he hasn’t gotten a call from interested teams in a couple of years.
This season alone, starting quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers, Anthony Richardson, Deshaun Watson, Kirk Cousins, Joe Burrow, and Daniel Jones have all incurred season-ending injuries. Fellow veteran QBs Derek Carr, Matthew Stafford, Bryce Young, Justin Fields, Tyrod Taylor, Jimmy Garoppolo, and Ryan Tannehill have also missed games due to a variety of ailments.

While signal-callers missing games does happen each season, injured QBs are at a viral level in 2023. Due to the unexpected epidemic, Joshua Dobbs got a second chance as a starter with the Minnesota Vikings, Trevor Siemian was signed by the New York Jets, and Joe Flacco was recently picked up by the Cleveland Browns.
Cam Newton admits he had not had his agent reach out to team’s with injured QBs
However, despite the clear need for proven leaders of an offense this season, one name that has never come up in free agent rumblings is former Carolina Panthers star Cam Newton. The 2015 NFL MVP was a rookie of the year in 2011 and earned three trips to the Pro Bowl during his 11 seasons in the league.
During a Tuesday appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show,” Newton claimed that he has not heard from a QB-needy NFL team in over two years. When asked if he had his agent reach out to teams with QB injuries to gauge interest, he said he did not.

“I know it doesn’t matter how many times you call, if they don’t want you they are not going to pick up,” Newton said.
The 34-year-old said he has no idea why teams are not willing to bring him in for a visit but did admit he believes his personality has turned some organizations off from signing him. Newton has had some off-the-field issues since he last played for the Panthers in 2021.
