JuJu Smith-Schuster expecting to hit unrestricted free agency, could be interested in Dallas Cowboys

Last offseason when JuJu Smith-Schuster hit free agency, he was likely expecting to be compensated as one of the top unrestricted wide receivers available. Ultimately he didn’t like the offers coming his way, choosing to re-sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers for another season at just $8 million.

Smith-Schuster also stated he had offers from both the Baltimore Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs and even received a multi-year offer from the Philadelphia Eagles, who offered more money.

This time around, Smith-Schuster is expected to be an unrestricted free agent once again, and while he’s also already stated a desire to remain in Pittsburgh for “another four years“, there’s another team who’s at least made him curious.

During his five seasons in Pittsburgh, JuJu Smith-Schuster had the privilege of catching passes from a Hall of Fame quarterback. After setting career-highs in receptions (111) and receiving yards (1,426) in his second season, Smith-Schuster hasn’t been able to come close to matching those numbers since.

Now with Ben Roethlisberger‘s retirement, Smith-Schuster may see the value in playing with a top-notch quarterback, having witnessed first-hand the difference between an effective QB and one who struggles to get him the ball.

Meanwhile, the fifth-year pro out of USC recently filmed a commercial with Dallas Cowboys star QB Dak Prescott and could see himself catching passes from the two-time Pro Bowl quarterback.

“He’s a great quarterback,” Smith-Schuster said, via Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News. “Catching balls from him in a facility like this, I wouldn’t mind it. He has some good guys around him, a great team, a great organization. So you never know.”

With Cowboys receivers Michael Gallup and Cedrick Wilson also set to be unrestricted free agents, there is a lot up in the air in Dallas. Gallup also has to rehab and recover from a torn ACL suffered in Week 17.

Yet, if Smith-Schuster is seeking a big payday, it’s unlikely to come from the Cowboys as they’re currently projected to have -$12 million in cap space, with some work to do before the 2022 league year begins.
