WATCH: D’Onta Foreman and Marcus Davenport ejected from Panthers-Saints game for throwing punches

D'Onta Foreman

Despite both the Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints entering play already eliminated from postseason contention, players from both teams are fighting. That’s it, not fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive, but simply throwing punches at one another.

The scrum was led by D’Onta Foreman and Marcus Davenport of the Panthers and Saints. Foreman, who has taken over as the team’s starting running back after Christian McCaffrey’s departure, is in the midst of a career year with 913 rushing yards. Davenport was the 14th overall pick from the 2018 NFL Draft but hasn’t enjoyed the same recent success and is set to be a free agent.

D’Onta Foreman-Marcus Davenport fight was short-lived and stupid

All of that momentum carried over into the teams’ regular season finale on Sunday, where the two division rivals faced off.

Frustrations boiled over just a few minutes into the third quarter, with the Saints leading 7-0 when Foreman was tackled for no gain by Davenport. But the battle didn’t end at the whistle.

Instead, Foreman and Davenport rose to their feet, jawing at each other, leading each to try and punch the other despite both still having their helmets on. Not exactly a wise move.

The scrum ultimately led to both players getting ejected from the game, ending their seasons a bit earlier than their teammates. In the end, no one wins. Both players are set to be unrestricted free agents and now have a little bit less film to show for it.

Then again, it’s hard not to fault the players for being upset with how their season is set to end. No one wants to be watching the playoffs from the couch.
