After watching Robert Griffin III and Josh McCown go down with shoulder injuries in the first two weeks of the season, the Cleveland Browns are signing free agent Charlie Whitehurst.
SportsTrust Advisors broke the news, with Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reporting the move a short while later.

The Browns will be starting rookie Cody Kessler on Sunday when they take on the Miami Dolphins.
McCown will likely miss at least a few games but is not being placed on the IR at this time. The injury he suffered in Week 2 left him in “excruciating pain” Monday, but he had a stirring reason for playing through it on Sunday (watch here).
Whitehurst is not a viable option to start for the Browns, but they absolutely had to make a move. Before they did, Kessler was the only healthy quarterback on the roster. A career 55.1 percent passer with 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions, he’s an emergency option only at this point.
