Report: Cody Kessler to start for Browns in Week 3

Cody Kessler

After watching Robert Griffin III and Josh McCown go down to injuries in consecutive weeks, the Cleveland Browns are turning to Cody Kessler in Week 3.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting the rookie will get the nod when the Browns hit the road to face the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.

Griffin III is already on injured reserve with a broken bone in his shoulder. McCown is dealing with an “excruciating” shoulder injury that has the team bracing for bad news.

Kessler better have his head on a swivel going up against Miami’s ferocious defensive front, because the Browns have been terrible at protecting the passer thus far in 2016.

Drafted in the third round this past April, Kessler is getting his shot much earlier than anyone anticipated, but the team has no other quarterbacks on the roster at this time.

Cleveland is in bad shape after starting the season 0-2. Things appear to be getting worse by the week. Browns fans had such high hopes when the franchise hired Hue Jackson and brought Griffin III on board, but those hopes have been dashed already.
