In one of the most hyped games of the 2019 SEC football season, the No. 7 Auburn Tigers and No. 10 Florida Gators exchanged three turnovers in an insane sequence.
The Gators were forced to punt after another stalled drive. Auburn’s punt returned began waving his teammates off and then the football hit him. After a mad scramble for the loose ball, Florida’s linebacker Jeremiah Moon jumped on it for the huge turnover.
After being backed up due to a penalty, Florida set up with a great opportunity to take a two-score lead early in the game. Instead, Auburn’s pass rush got to quarterback Kyle Trask and knocked the football loose.
Tiger defensive tackle Derrick Brown scooped up the ball and started hustling down the field. Then just when he seemed on the verge of an incredible touchdown, the 318-pound defensive tackle tripped over his own feet and hit the turf.
Just as quickly as Florida found itself in scoring position, Auburn now was in the same spot. Then the craziness of Saturday’s game took over once again when Gators defensive back Sawn Davis made an absurd, one-handed interception and returned it to Auburn’s 31-yard line.
It’s fitting that the best play was saved for last. Davis’ jaw-dropping grab and return will likely go down as one of the best players in football this season. The Gators finally took advantage of the turnover by scoring a touchdown two plays later to take a 14-6 lead.
