Centerfielder Ramón Laureano and the Oakland Athletics are on quite the tear right now.
They entered Wednesday’s action against the last-place Mariners having won 18 of their past 23 games and are just 4.5 games behind the Houston Astros in the AL West.
Oakland was not about to cease its recent hot play. And this catch from Laureano represents a prime example of that.
With the A’s up 7-2 in the top of the eighth, Laureano straight robbed Mariners first baseman Tim Beckham of a sure-fire home run.
It’s hard to get the ball out of Oakland Coliseum at pretty much straight away center. Beckham thought he had accomplished that feat for his 15th homer of the season. It wasn’t to be.
One of many young A’s stars, Laureano has made brilliant defensive play after brilliant defensive in his young career. But this might have been the best.
