The Boston Bruins are trading former Hart Trophy recipient Taylor Hall to the Chicago Blackhawks, multiple outlets reported Monday.
In addition, unrestricted free agent Nick Foligno is going to Chicago in exchange for the rights to restricted free agents Ian Mitchell and Alec Regula, according to the Daily Faceoff.
The move allows the Bruins to shed the remaining $6 million of Hall’s salary.
Chicago was not part of Hall’s 16-team no-trade list, allowing the Bruins to consummate the trade without his permission, per reports.
Hall, 31, was the No. 1 overall pick of Edmonton in 2010. He tallied 36 points (16 goals, 20 assists) in 61 games last season. He has 693 points (264 goals, 429 assists) in 822 career games with five teams, starting with six seasons with the Oilers. He won the Hart Trophy in 2017-18 while with the New Jersey Devils.
He also played a half-season each with the Arizona Coyotes and Buffalo Sabres before Buffalo traded him on April 12, 2021, with Curtis Lazar for Anders Bjork and a second-round pick in the 2021 draft.
Foligno, 35, just completed his 16th season in the NHL, the past two in Boston. The winger has 525 points (215 goals, 310 assists) in 1,081 career games with four teams, including the Columbus Blue Jackets (2012-21). He was selected No. 28 overall by Ottawa in the 2006 draft.
Mitchell, 24, tallied eight points in 35 games last season for Chicago. Fellow defenseman Regula, 22, played in just four games with the Blackhawks and didn’t register a point.
