Report: Rockies and pitcher German Marquez agree to contract extension

The Colorado Rockies like what they’ve seen from pitcher German Marquez. On Tuesday, they reportedly agreed to a five-year contract extension.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic and ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported the terms of the deal.

This contract shows a real commitment to pitching, something that the Rockies have not always had. It’s a real step in the right direction.

Marquez, the 24-year-old right-hander, had a breakout campaign for the Rockies in 2018.

Last season, he posted a 3.77 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and struck out 230 hitters in 196 innings. He was especially strong after the All-Star break, putting up a 2.61 ERA and 1.00 WHIP while striking out 124 hitters in 93 innings.

Those numbers must be viewed even better when we remember that Coors Field is his home stadium.
