Report: Rays, Indians favorites to land Yasiel Puig

With the MLB trade deadline quickly approaching, a new name has surfaced as a potential candidate to be moved.

Cincinnati Reds outfielder Yasiel Puig is squarely on the block. If he is to be moved, Jon Heyman of MLB Network notes that the Tampa Bay Rays and Cleveland Indians are favorites to land the former international sensation.

It’s not too surprising that these two teams would be interested in a bat. Tampa Bay has already added during trade season. Meanwhile, the Indians are said to be both selling and buying as they look to overtake the Minnesota Twins in the AL Central.

They’ve been linked to the Reds in a deal that would send Trevor Bauer to Cincinnati. Could Puig be involved in that hypothetical trade? It remains to be seen.

Puig, 28, is an impending free agent. He’s hitting .255 with 22 homers and 60 RBI on the season. Though, the former All-Star has picked it up some recently. He’s posted a .306 average with five homers and 15 RBI in July.
