Report: Dwight Freeney wants to play in 2017

Dwight Freeney has the itch to give it another go, according to a report, and will become a free agent next week for his 16th NFL season.

Freeney was with the Atlanta Falcons this past season, participating in 15 games and starting one during the regular season. He managed just three sacks during the regular season and logged one more in Super Bowl LI against Tom Brady in a losing effort against the New England Patriots.

Best known for his play during his tenure with the Indianapolis Colts, Freeney won a title with the 2006 Colts team that beat the Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XLI.

Throughout his 15-year career, Freeney has tallied 122.5 sacks during the regular season and another 11 during the postseason. If he does sign with a team this upcoming season, then it stands to reason he’ll be a situational pass rusher whose best contributions to the team would be felt in the locker room and during meetings as a respected veteran with a wealth of knowledge to share.
