Report: Bucs WR Josh Huff cuts deal to avoid jail time in gun case

Josh Huff

Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Josh Huff has reportedly made a deal with prosecutors that will keep him out of jail, provided he meets certain conditions, per TMZ Sports.

Last November, Huff was stopped for speeding when police discovered a gun, hollow-point bullets and marijuana in his vehicle (more on that here). As a result, he was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and was looking atĀ up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

“TMZ Sports has learned Huff accepted a conditional plea — in which he essentially gets 6 months probation and, if he stays out of trouble, the charge will be wiped from his record.”

If Huff doesn’t adhere to the conditions and finds trouble during the probationary period, he will reportedly face the maximum punishment. Huff still faces DUI charges, along with illegal window tinting, but his lawyer told TMZ he is hopefulĀ those charges are removed.

After being arrested, Huff was released by the Philadelphia Eagles but quickly was signed by the Buccaneers. He caught just three passes in three games for Tampa Bay last season, making his impact felt more on special teams with six kickoff returns for 72 yards.

He’s definitely in a position where a roster spot heading into 2017 must be earned, especially in light of the Bucs landing coveted receiver DeSean Jackson in free agency this March.
