Phoenix Suns sign talented son of former NBA great

Following a tough playoff exit, the Phoenix Suns have already stolen the spotlight a few times this offseason. We saw an unexpected coaching change from Monty Williams to Frank Vogel, plus a blockbuster trade for Bradley Beal, while also parting with future Hall of Famer Chris Paul.

These are sweeping changes, but the Suns hope they can put together a roster capable of winning the NBA Finals. To do so, they’ll need to be wise about finding inexpensive talent to complement their star-studded starting five.

One of those valued contributors could be new free agent signee Bol Bol, who inked a one-year, guaranteed contract with the Suns for the 2023-24 season, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

Bol had been let go by the Orlando Magic this summer and spent the past few weeks trying to find the right fit. With the Magic boasting several young players who are in desperate need of seeing floor time, the 23-year-old 7-foot-2 big man was deemed replaceable.

Now the son of late NBA great Manute Bol will take his otherworldly length to the Suns, where he’s expected to find a role off the bench under coach Vogel. After averaging 21.5 MPG across 70 appearances with Orlando, Bol could see his minutes reduced in Phoenix as they eye a return to the playoffs. Still, it’s not hard to envision Bol having a breakout season in his fifth year.
