Jean Segura hit his first career grand slam during a seven-run eighth inning and Brad Miller homered twice as the visiting Philadelphia Phillies opened a three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers with a 12-0 victory on Monday.
Bryce Harper, Freddy Galvis and Andrew McCutchen also homered for Philadelphia, which has won eight of its last 10 games.
Harper set the tone in the first inning with a two-run shot off Brandon Woodruff (9-8) to help the Phillies record their fifth straight win over Milwaukee this season.
Phillies starter Zack Wheeler (12-9) allowed five hits over six scoreless innings. He struck out nine with no walks while throwing 99 pitches.
Philadelphia moved ahead 3-0 on Galvis’ third homer in his last four games, a two-out solo blast to right field in the second.
Miller connected for a leadoff homer in the fourth inning off Woodruff, who surrendered three homers in a game for the first time in his career.
Woodruff gave up four runs on nine hits over six innings. He walked one and struck out six.
Milwaukee was outhit 16-6 and did not record an extra-base hit until Rowdy Tellez doubled with one out in the seventh.
The Phillies turned the game into a rout in the eighth. McCutchen hit a leadoff homer off Brad Boxberger, who allowed the first four batters of the inning to reach base.
Segura, who had three hits and scored two runs, capped the seven-run outburst with a grand slam off Daniel Norris, a 402-foot shot to left field.
Miller’s third hit of the game was a leadoff homer off Luke Maile in the ninth, giving him 17 for the season and five in his last 10 games.
Ronald Torreyes, J.T. Realmuto and Wheeler had two hits apiece for the Phillies, who swept the Brewers in a four-game series in Philadelphia in May.
Phillies relievers Hector Neris and Matt Moore closed out the Phillies’ 10th shutout of the season by combining for six strikeouts over three scoreless innings.
