General manager Howie Roseman has been with the Philadelphia Eagles since 2000. He’s been the team’s GM since 2010, where he’s enjoyed having final say on roster decisions ever since. This includes signing and trading for players, making contract decisions, and of course, drafting the many talented players that have helped the Eagles be what seems like annual contenders.

As great as the Eagles have been over the past decade-plus, which includes winning Super Bowl LII, athletes can’t play forever. Now one of the team’s mainstays could be inching toward retirement this offseason.

NFL sources expect Fletcher Cox to retire this offseason

After 12 seasons, a Super Bowl win, an All-Pro appearance and six Pro Bowl appearances, Fletcher Cox is expected to retire this offseason according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

“ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported last month that Eagles center Jason Kelce told teammates he is retiring, and I’ve talked to multiple sources who believe defensive tackle Fletcher Cox will probably retire at some point this offseason, too. Now, retirements are tricky — plans are malleable as players emerge from the haze of the season — but there’s a real possibility the Eagles will be replacing two legends at once.”

NFL insider Jeremy Fowler on Fletcher Cox

Cox has had an incredible career with the Eagles, one that includes him being named to the All-2010s HOF team while racking up 70 sacks. He still started all 15 games he appeared in last season and tallied five sacks in the process. Yet, at the age of 33, it’s possible the toll of playing football for over a decade in the pros could be catching up to him.

With ready-made replacements like Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter on hand, the Eagles amazingly may be just fine without Cox’s production in 2024, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be missed. That is, if he decides to retire.

Cox does still have another year left on his contract, where he’s set to earn a base salary of $1.5 million next season, with a reasonable cap hit of $5.7 million. We’ll see if Cox decides to hang up his cleats, but if so, he’ll end his career ranking fifth all-time in Eagles history with 70 career sacks.
