An NBA insider has revealed some surprising details on if the Philadelphia 76ers could target Bradley Beal or Fred VanVleet if James Harden exits in NBA free agency.

The next few weeks will be big for the Philadelphia 76ers. James Harden’s plans to opt out of the final year of his contract and test his value on the open market is a dark cloud that is hanging over the team’s offseason. While they reportedly have every intention of trying to re-sign him, there is a real chance he could take his talents elsewhere.

The Philadelphia 76ers can offer Harden the most money and fired Doc Rivers, the head coach he seemed to have a poor relationship. Yet, a reunion with the Houston Rockets is reportedly a very strong likelihood for the 10-time All-Star.

That fact has led many to wonder if the organization will look to fill the offensive punch they would lose if James Harden left with a different star through a trade or NBA free agency. Two potential options 76ers fans may speculate about are Washington Wizards star Bradley Beal and impending free agent Fred VanVleet. However, a new report claims both are unlikely to head to Philly this summer.

On Thursday, Yahoo Sports NBA insider Jake Fischer ran down several stories circulating around the league, including James Harden in free agency, and Bradley Beal trade rumors. When it comes to the 76ers possibly targeting the three-time All-Star, he reported that sources claim the organization has no intention of pursuing Beal.

If Harden were to leave, it certainly would free up space on the 76ers payroll and that could be used on free-agent point guard Fred VanVleet. A player that seems like a solid fit. However, Fischer also revealed VanVleet won’t be on their wishlist this summer, even if they lose Harden to Houston.

It’s certainly not good news for Philadelphia 76ers fans who understand if Harden leaves the team will no longer be the NBA title contender they were the last two seasons and that would be a frustrating step back for the fanbase.
