Pau Gasol may freeze sperm prior to Summer Olympics

It’s not yet known whether Chicago Bulls big man Paul Gasol will suit up for the Spanish National Team in the upcoming Summer Olympics in Rio.

Though, one thing is clear.

If Gasol does indeed head to Brazil to represent his nation, he might be leaving an important package back at home.

Gasol indicated just recently that he has to consider freezing some of his sperm as a way to be able to procreate should he become infected with the Zika virus while overseas.

“Freezing sperm is one of the measures I have to consider,” Gasol said, via ESPN.

Talk about taking drastic measures to help guarantee that you can continue to have offspring.

The Zika virus itself has been somewhat of a point of contention for athletes looking to head to Brazil to participate in the Olympic games.

While they have not directly indicated that the virus played a role in their decisions to opt out of the games, both Stephen Curry and Russell Westbrook will not be representing the United States in Rio this summer. They join a long list of NBA stars passing up on the games.

The Zika virus is a disease that’s spread through mosquito bites. It can cause a wide array of side effects, including severe birth defects in infants born to women who carry the virus. Needless to say, Gasol is protecting his own here.
