Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes hobbled after re-aggravating ankle injury

Update: Patrick Mahomes returned for the third quarter and seemed to look much better than in the second quarter.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes entered Super Bowl LVII limited due to a high-ankle sprain he suffered a few weeks back in the AFC Divisional Playoffs.

Leading up to Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles, it was clear that he wasn’t anywhere near 100%.

Late in the second quarter of said game with Kansas City down 21-14, Mahomes seemed to re-aggravate the injury on a scramble. He was obviously limping while pulling himself up off the turf before making his way to the sideline. It was not a good scene for the reigning NFL MVP and his Chiefs team.

As you can see, Patrick Mahomes was in a tremendous amount of pain. While he did play through an injury to the same ankle during the divisional round, this is going to be something to watch as Super Bowl LVII continues Sunday evening.

What we do know is that the Chiefs’ brass understood full well that Mahomes was not at 100% heading into the game.

“The great thing is Patrick’s a very fast healer, and he was able to get ready to play the AFC Championship game, you know, in a week on that high ankle sprain and did just an amazing job, including making the pivotal play at the end of the game that helped us win it on his legs. He’s doing great this week. I don’t know that he’ll be 100 percent, but he sure isn’t going to tell you otherwise.”
