The New York Yankees optioned starting pitcher Domingo German to the team’s alternate training site Saturday, hours after the right-hander lasted just four innings in a loss to the Tampa Bay Rays.

German has a 9.00 ERA on the season after allowing four runs on eight hits in the Yanks’ 4-0 loss to the Rays. German gave up two more home runs Saturday, giving him four allowed in two starts (seven innings).

It was German’s second start back from suspension after missing the entire 2020 season serving an 81-game suspension for violating the league’s domestic violence policy in 2019.

“I’m definitely not pleased with the results that I’ve gotten these two outings,” German said through a translator after Saturday’s game. “One of the things I wanted to do is be more aggressive in the zone. Tampa is a good hitting team. They understand the strike zone very well. I’ve got to look at the tape and make the necessary adjustments for the next outing.”

German went 18-4 in 2019 with a 4.03 ERA in 24 starts.
