Joe Theismann has come to a decision about whether rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins can wear his old No. 7 with the Washington Redskins.
Per Grant Paulsen of The Athletic, Theismann said he spoke to Haskins on the phone and gave him the green light.
It’s important to note that, while No. 7 isn’t retired, Washington wasn’t allowing players to use that number — until now.
Theismann had previously said he wasn’t sure if he’d allow Haskins — the No. 15 overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft — to wear No. 7. He said he’d need to talk to the Ohio State product first. Whatever it was that convinced him to say yes, we’re just glad this is all over now.
