Steve Kerr may not be getting the same results we’ve come to expect from his Golden State Warriors this season, but it’s not impacting how he’s viewed as a head coach.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Warriors are signing Kerr to a new contract extension, one that makes him the highest-paid coach in NBA history. The previous honor belonged to Monty Williams, who signed a six-year, $78 million contract to coach the Detroit Pistons.

Kerr is set to make $17.5 million per year on his newly signed two-year, $35 million extension. This ensures Kerr will remain with the Warriors through the 2025-26 season.

San Antonio’s Gregg Popovich does make more than Kerr annually, but he also doubles as the Spurs’ president too.

Kerr’s contract comes at an opportune time, with his existing deal set to expire following the end of the 2023-24 season. He is also the head coach of Team USA, where he’ll be in action for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

The Warriors enter NBA games today in tenth place of the Western Conference, at 28-26, good enough for the final spot in the NBA Play-In Tournament.
