Papa Kante, a four-star center recruit from Senegal, committed Thursday to play his college basketball at Michigan.

Kante is rated the No. 108 overall prospect in the Class of 2023 and the 14th-best center, per the 247Sports composite rankings.

The 6-foot-10, 215-pound big man at South Kent School in Connecticut picked the Wolverines over Maryland, Memphis, Pitt and Rutgers.

Kante is the first recruit so far this cycle to join coach Juwan Howard’s class. 247Sports ranked Michigan as having the 10th-best Class of 2022 and the third-best Class of 2021, which included NBA draft picks Caleb Houstan and Moussa Diabate.
