College football bowl picks today: Fiesta Bowl, Oregon vs. Liberty

Fiesta Bowl: Bo Nix

Vrbo Fiesta Bowl

Liberty 13-0 vs. Oregon 10-2

  • Monday, 2 p.m. ET, ESPN
  • State Farm Stadium, Glendale, Arizona
  • Line: Oregon -16.5; Over/Under 67.5

All hail Bo Nix! He’s one of the few non-College Football Playoff quarterbacks to play in his team’s bowl game.

Nix, who will be one of the first quarterbacks taken in the NFL Draft, is 11 passing yards from 15,000 for his career. Only six other players have thrown for that much. He will also be trying to break the all-time NCAA single-season completion percentage record of 77.4% and Marcus Mariota’s school record of 4.454, and 42 passing TDs in a season.

Liberty comes in 13-0, but the its strength-of-schedule ranked last in FBS. The Flames led the nation in rushing yards per game at 302.9, finishing more than 20 yards per game ahead of the next-closest team.

Quarterback Kaidon Salter transferred from Tennessee and threw for 2,750 yards and 31 touchdowns and ran for 1,064 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Still, we can’t see Liberty being competitive in this game. Oregon was this close to being in the College Football Playoff. So we’re going with the Ducks to win big here.
