Derek Carr to meet with several teams during NFL Scouting Combine

Four-time Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Carr got a jumpstart over other impending free agents when the Las Vegas Raiders released him earlier in February.

Carr’s release came after he exercised his no-trade clause. It also came a short while after Vegas benched the veteran quarterback late during the 2022 season.

Having already met with the New Orleans Saints and New York Jets, it now looks like Carr is going to have face-to-face conversations with several teams here soon.

According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Carr is headed to the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis this week to talk with potential suitors.

This is a way for the 31-year-old Carr to meet with multiple teams as the free-agent process plays out. In his report, Rapoport noted that the former second-round pick from Fresno State will likely choose a new team before free agency itself opens up in roughly two weeks.

  • Derek Carr stats (2022): 60.8% completion, 3,522 yards, 24 TD, 14 INT, 86.3 QB rating

Carr is coming off his worst statistical performance since he was a rookie with the then-Oakland Raiders back in 2014. He just didn’t seem to fit what first-year head coach Josh McDaniels was looking to do on offense.

Now a free man, Carr is doing his best to land in a great situation. He has yet to talk finances with interested teams. Rather, the four-time Pro Bowler is looking for the best potential fit.

In addition to the Jets and Saints, Carr has been linked to multiple teams. That includes the Carolina Panthers and Tennessee Titans.

It is interesting that he would head to Indianapolis rather than take individual meetings with teams at his comfort. This could suggest that the market has expended for Derek Carr. It was just recently that three unnamed teams had joined in the sweepstakes for the Pro Bowler.

All of this comes at a time when NFL teams are waiting to see what Aaron Rodgers decides and whether he’ll hit the trade block. In particular, the aforementioned Jets have been in on both veteran signal callers.

As it stands right now, we could get a resolution to the entire Carr situation within the matter of a few days. Hence, why he’s heading to Indianapolis for the combine.
