Cubs SS Addison Russell suspended 40 games

The Chicago Cubs are not just reeling from a premature playoff exit at the hands of the Colorado Rockies. One of their franchise cornerstones might have played his final game at the friendly confines as a member of the Cubs.

Having already been placed on administrative leave following allegations by his ex-wife, shortstop Addison Russell has now been suspended 40 games by MLB.

As these allegations made news over the past several months, Russell had in fact remained a member of the Cubs. That changed recently with new information coming out.

Previous reports suggested that Russell, 24, would not remain a member of the Cubs following the 2018 season. This suspension will make it easier for Chicago to greenlight a release of the once-promising young middle infielder.
