Cincinnati Bengals add veteran running back, release Pro Bowler Joe Mixon

Joe Mixon’s seven-year run with the Cincinnati Bengals has come to an end. According to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo, the Bengals have released the Pro Bowl running back.

Other reports indicate that Cincinnati has signed veteran running back Zack Moss to a two-year, $8 million contract. He’ll replace Mixon as RB1 with the Bengals.

A second-round pick of the Bengals out of Oklahoma in the 2017 NFL Draft, Mixon has tallied four career 1,000-yard seasons. This past year saw the veteran gain 1,034 rushing yards and nine touchdowns at a clip of 4.0 yards per rush.

Throughout his seven-year career, Mixon is averaging 1,222 total yards and nine touchdowns per season. His best performance came back in 2021 when Mixon tallied 1,519 total yards and 16 touchdowns en route to earning his first and only Pro Bowl appearance.

By releasing Mixon, the Bengals save $6.1 million against the 2024 NFL salary cap. As for Moss, he comes over to Cincinnati after gaining 986 total yards and seven touchdowns for the Indianapolis Colts a season ago.
