A new report claims the Carolina Panthers are targeting a homecoming for a three-time Pro Bowler who would join the team and be Brian Burns’ replacement as one of their leading pass rushers in 2024.

The first two days of 2024 NFL free agency have been eventful for the Panthers. They addressed the weaknesses they had on the offensive line by signing guards Robert Hunt and Damien Lewis to a pair of sizable contracts. Plus, they acquired talented Steelers receiver Diontae Johnson in a surprise deal on Tuesday.

However, they also freed up cap space to make those additions and more by trading two-time Pro Bowler Brian Burns to the New York Giants. While the move needed to happen because the team and their top pass rusher could not come to terms on a new deal, it leaves a massive void they must now try and fill.

Could Carolina Panthers sign South Carolina native Jadevenon Clowney soon?

Yesterday it was revealed that the Panthers are set to meet with one-time Pro Bowler Chase Young to potentially be their top sack master in 2024. However, he is not the franchise’s only target. On Wednesday morning NFL Media league insider Mike Garafolo reported that the team “will host three-time Pro Bowl selection and Rock Hill, S.C. native Jadeveon Clowney on a visit to this week.”

  • Jadeveon Clowney stats (2023): 9.5 sacks, 43 tackles, 5 passes defended, 2 forced fumbles, 19 QB hits

After a down season in 2022 where he played in just 12 games for the Cleveland Browns, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft had a bounce-back season in 2023. This past season he tied his career high with 9.5 sacks for a Baltimore Ravens team that went all the way to the AFC Championship game.

In two of the last three years, the 31-year-old has posted nine or more sacks and would be a solid addition at a far more affordable rate than what Burns would have cost the organization in 2024.
