The St. Louis Cardinals activated Dylan Carlson and placed fellow outfielder Tyler O’Neill on the injured list before Saturday’s doubleheader against the Cincinnati Reds.

Carlson, 23, went on the 10-day IL on Sept. 7 with a sprained left thumb. He is batting .240 with eight homers and 39 RBIs in 112 games.

O’Neill, 27, has a left hamstring strain. He is hitting .228 with 14 homers, 58 RBIs and 14 stolen bases in 96 games.

Last season, O’Neill hit 34 home runs and added 80 RBIs while batting .286 — all career highs — for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals also brought up right-hander Dakota Hudson as the 29th man to start Game 1 of the doubleheader.
