The Cincinnati Bengals re-signed tight end Drew Sample, who missed all but two games last season due to a knee injury, to a one-year contract Friday.

Sample, 26, was an unrestricted free agent and visited with the Arizona Cardinals before re-signing.

The Bengals made the 6-foot-5, 255-pound Sample a second-round draft pick (52nd overall) out of Washington in 2019. Primarily a blocking tight end, he has played in 44 games (25 starts) with 58 receptions for 458 yards and one touchdown.

He started the first two games in 2022 but was injured after catching a pass in the second quarter of the Bengals’ 20-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 18 and was out for the rest of the year. Sample was in the final season of a four-year, $5.5 million rookie deal.
