Atlanta Falcons star pushes back against report he’s been in communication with Kirk Cousins

The Atlanta Falcons have been linked to pretty much every available quarterback on the NFL free agent market or trade block.

It’s no surprise given how poor youngster Desmond Ridder has looked in his first two seasons with the Falcons. General manager Terry Fontenot has also made it clear that the Falcons are looking for an upgrade under center.

Most recently, the Falcons have been linked to Minnesota Vikings star Kirk Cousins on pretty much a never-ending loop.

Cousins, 35, will hit free agency unless he’s able to come to terms on a new contract with the Vikings. It has been a whole talking point in both Atlanta and Minnesota in recent days.

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reported recently that Cousins has been in conversations with Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts about who will be wearing No. 8 next season. It’s a clear indication that something could be in the cards next week.

Or not.

What an absolutely great response from Pitts right there. Sure, we’re at a point in the NFL offseason in which crazy rumors are making their ways to the water cooler. But this is actually pretty epic. A player mentioned in a specific report completely refuting it on social media.

Cousins to the Falcons does make sense in that they have the skill-position talent to make the team an attractive destination. Atlanta also boasts north of $41 million in cap room and can add to that ahead of the start of NFL free agency.
