Aaron Rodgers and New York Jets agree to a reworked contract that virtually guarantees return in 2024

Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets have come to terms on a new two-year contract that likely guarantees the legendary quarterback returns in 2024 and gives the team more money to improve their chances of winning a Super Bowl.

The New York Jets trade for Green Bay Packers icon Aaron Rodgers was one of the biggest stories of the 2023 NFL offseason. The team is on the rise, features one of the best defenses in the league, and several young pieces on offense that have major potential if placed with an elite-level signal-caller. Rodgers was brought in to cure the Jets’ biggest ill in 2022 and he makes them a legitimate Super Bowl contender this season.

However, there have been many questions surrounding if his tenure in New York will be one-and-done. The future Hall-of-Famer has flirted with the idea of retirement for the last few years and at 39, he seriously considered the notion in the spring. It is a fear that is in the back of many Jets’ fan’s minds and has to be something the organization’s brass has wondered about as well.

But on Wednesday, Aaron Rodgers and the team may have put those fears to rest when NFL Network league insider Tom Pelissero revealed that “The New York Jets signed four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers to a new two-year, $75 million guaranteed contract through the 2024 season.” The QB had nearly $110M guaranteed over the next two years in his previous deal with the Packers, so he is taking a major pay cut to try and win it all this season, and next year as well.

It is an interesting turn of events after Rodgers, in a way, held Green Bay hostage two years ago when he threatened to retire and the team forked over a record contract for him to return that paid him $50 million on average per season.

It seems that changing his uniform to a different shade of green has made the league legend far more giving than he used to be.
