San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, just four days after sustaining a concussion.

Purdy remains in concussion protocol and needs to be cleared by an independent neurologist on Saturday to play against Cincinnati. San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan indicated Purdy will start if cleared to play.

“Yeah, definitely,” Shanahan told reporters. “He was full-go today, so he’s just got to pass that tomorrow.”

Purdy began experiencing concussion symptoms on the flight home following Monday night’s 22-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. He returned to practice Thursday on a limited basis.

Purdy is completing 67.9 percent of his passes for 1,668 yards, 11 TDs and three interceptions on the season.

If Purdy cannot play, Sam Darnold is in line to make his first start for San Francisco. The former New York Jets and Carolina Panthers starter signed with the 49ers as a free agent in March.

Also, left tackle Trent Williams (ankle) is listed as questionable after not practicing all week. Receiver Deebo Samuel (shoulder) will miss his second straight game.

For Cincinnati, running back Chase Brown (hamstring) and linebacker Akeem Davis-Gaither (knee) were ruled out.

Left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. (groin) was a full practice participant and is expected to start on Sunday. Brown has missed just one game in six NFL seasons with the Baltimore Ravens (2018-20), Kansas City Chiefs (2021-22) and Bengals.
