49ers players vote Colin Kaepernick as most inspirational, courageous teammate

The San Francisco 49ers and their quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, have made news headlines all season long.

One news item as the season winds down is sure to spark public murmurings, as Kaepernick was voted by his teammates as the winner of the Len Eshmont Award for 2016. The award is meant to go to the “most inspirational and courageous teammate,” per Kevin Jones of KNBR.

Kaepernick has been through his share of ups and downs on a team that struggles at nearly every aspect. He eventually got his starting job back in Week 6 this season. This was after he was benched midway through last season in favor of Blaine Gabbert for one too many poor performances.

The biggest controversy involving Kap this year was when made the decision to kneel during the National Anthem. His choice sparked a major uproar ranging from those who supported him, to those who did not agree with his stance. It is still a hot topic of debate to this day.

Kap obviously made enough of an impact on his teammates for them to admire what he has done. At this time, Kap’s future with the 49ers remains a bit uncertain. He recently shot down rumors that he would attempt to get out of his contract and become a free agent.

The 49ers will finish up the 2016 regular season with a home matchup against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 17. Should they pull off a win, it will be only their third victory of the season.
