The Atlanta Braves have added some veteran competition for their starting rotation heading into Spring Training. According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, Atlanta has signed former Cy Young winner and six-time All-Star Felix Hernandez.
The deal is said to be worth $1 million and comes with a non-roster invite to Spring Training.
Hernandez, 33, is a shell of his former self. The AL Cy Young winner back in 2010, he pitched to a 1-8 record with a 6.40 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in 15 starts for the Seattle Mariners last season.
Treated as a hero in the Pacific Northwest for his domination from 2005-15, it’s going to be weird to see Hernandez in any other uniform than the Mariners.
Hernandez has posted a 169-136 record with a 3.42 ERA and 2,524 strikeouts throughout a career that will ultimately culminate in a trip to Cooperstown.
